15th-Jul-2009 03:04 pm - why do it?
I swear some of the changes they mae have no apparent. For example, why have Luna find Harry on the Hogwarts Express after Malfoy beats him up? In what sense would it be more difficult to have Tonks do it? So many things like that.

And hey, just extract half the plot, and no one will notice.

Yes, I'm still a Harry Potter-geek.

I figure there's got to be some money for someone in starting this rumour about Michael Jackson.

Sure, he's Keynesian. Sure, he doesn't want to remove fascist Islalmic theocrats with the aid of a cruise missile. And sure, he's black. Kinda. But then, I'm not really convinced that any of those things, in themselves, make you particularly left wing. In fact, I'm pretty sure the second one is just a manifestaton of nationalism. Not impressed thus far.

And apparently PETA are giving him shit over that insect he squashed.

I'm posting lots because I can't concentrate. LAST EXAM IN T-MINUS 11H10M.
19th-May-2009 01:22 am - Kimya Dawson
I know I go on about her before, but just got back from seeing Kimya Dawson live in London. Was pretty fucking awesome, even though it was, like, a 7.5 hour trip (with the shitty line closures - which Lily is now familiar with), about 45 minutes-1 hour of which was actually her set. Kinda stupid since she's playing tomorrow in Brighton (weirdly at a club I've been into before to see amateur bands play), and it would have been a lot less hassle to go there.

Slightly odd atmosphere: it was a church. But her performance-style is so intimate and moving and yeeeeah, was probably comparably enjoyable as Snow Patrol for a quarter of the price. She's constantly touring, so I really think all you N. Americans should catch her when she's in your city next. It's such incredibly good value.

</badly written post>

There's a sheet of paper on the side in the kitchen, probably belonging to my mother, which has a list of spiritual endeavours which Christians are supposed to partake in, and then  table in which you can rank yourself for each of them. I was struck by the following:

Regularly complete "acts of secret service" for others to show God's love for them.

Sardonic quotation marks are actually theirs, not mine. How fucking insiduous can you get? Is it me, or is that a deliberate and conscious attempt to manufacture evidence for a myth?

IN OTHER NEWS: LILY TOMORROW!
16th-Mar-2009 10:38 pm - Snow Patrol was awesome by the way
Particularly when they played the famous, amazing stuff that everyone loves. Like, when he belted out Run and Chasing Cars and Shut your Eyes and You're All I Have and 20,000 people sang it back with him in unison, I couldn't help but feel that there were 20,000 assorted emotional connections to them all melded into this one beautiful sound. I dunno if he was just putting it on, but he seemed genuinely overwhelmed by it. After Run, he completely missed his cue for the next song, and was all like, "I'm so sorry. Where the singing was supposed to start, I just didn't. I really apologise. I was just blown away by the response to that last song. Thank you." After Chasing Cars, he was laughing and said, "People ask me if it gets boring playing the same songs every night. Ha ha, fuck me no."

It was completely unlike any other gig I've been to. I haaave to see them again.

EDIT 2: Or this is a better one, but I wasn't anywhere near that close - though prob not as far as the first: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SinZhHdxl4 (except when it gets loud, it gets shit)

In fact, there's loooooads of recordings of it

I haven't slept. But I don't care. Deadline day has arrived and my essay is exactlt 3000 words. I'd like to take credit, but Liz did the cutting.
2nd-Feb-2009 01:33 pm - Heh
It's a snow day - like, the first ever snow day in the history of Mozzie's schooling, which is in its final year - and I'm spending it inside procrastinating coursework that I really can't afford to procrastinate, rather than running about with balls of snow and men of ice and carrot and so on.

Which I guess makes me Bart Simpson in that episode with the snow day where he stays in and procrastinates. Uh-huh. Except I'm not that fussed, really.

Still, it was lovely when, semi-conscious, I was informed school was shut. "That's fantastic. *groan* Really great. *mumbles incoherently* Yeah... *is asleep*"

Who cares about this signing in stuff. Wiki says:

"George Walker Bush ( /ˈdʒɔrdʒ ˈwɔːkɚ ˈbʊʃ/ (help·info); born July 6, 1946) was the forty-third President of the United States."
